Description

The finger of God (as in Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel) points but it is encased in a condom. Text reads 'The condom debate steps up. With God (Well, the IMF International Monetary Fund) stressing the need for the breeding Irish coalition government to use the prophylactic and avoid future procreation'. Refers to Pope Benedict XVI's 2009 statement that condoms were not the answer to the aids epidemic in Africa and could make the problem worse. In September 2010 he started a debate when he said some condom use may be justified, Vatican insiders say, raising hopes and fears that the church may be starting to back away from its condom ban for its flock of 1 billion Catholics. In November 2010 Liberal Catholics, AIDS activists and health officials on Sunday welcomed Pope Benedict's comments that using condoms may sometimes be justified to stop the spread of the disease. Refers also to the Irish economic crisis, which has resulted in the need for a bailout and more austerity measures. Irish banks created a large part of the problem for irresponsible lending causing a boom and bust economic situation.
