Description

The papers reflect Dick Singleton's ownership of the French Maid Coffee House, Lambton Quay, used by Wellington's artistic and musical community and comprise photographs of Singleton and the coffee bar, clippings about him and his interest in coffee, `He taught us how coffee should taste' by Fred Jones (Dominion, 2 Oct 1967), `Coffee rules his life' (Hutt news, 29 Sep 1970), `A New haunt for Wellington artists' (NZ woman's weekly, 8 Sep 1958), `Little cafe on the Quay will be missed' (1952), `Export first from Petone', and `Petone firm wins UK food order'. Two mounted photographs labelled `French Maid coffee requested by the Ross Sea Antarctic Expedition being packed in the factory of A D Singleton Ltd, Petone', menu for `French Maid dinner' at Kirkcaldie and Stains (1961), French Maid Coffee House menu, and `Art New Zealand' (Sep 1942) with article about the French Maid Coffee House exhibitions
