Two Caroline Islands men, one viewed from the back, his head turned towards the viewer, the other in frontal profile. Both have light beards and moustaches and long hair tied back and decorated with nails. Both wear ear adornments and necklaces and have tattooing on their upper arms
Based on an ink drawing by Jules LeJeune, artist with Duperrey during his 1824-1826 visit to the Pacific. The watercolour version as a guide to hand-colourists for Plate 50 published in L. I. Duperrey's Voyage ... sur la Coquille ... 1822-1825. Histoire du voyage.
