A page from the "Students' digest", November 1942, urging the public to save worn out useless rubber articles such as tyre, tubes, garden hose, hot water bottles, mats, soles and heels, wringer rolls, golf and tennis balls,basin plugs,m door stops, gloves, gumboots, galoshes, rubber sponges, tobacco pouches, toys, bathing caps, belting, cables, ebonite, insulation jointing, packings, washers, air cushions, surgical tubing, syringes and gas bags. All these items could go towards: (for the Air Force) rubber dinghies, life jackets, landing wheels, self-sealing tanks, flying helmets, oxygen masks, rubber caps for cannon; (for the Army) truck tyres, mobile repair shops, guns, tank fittings, groundsheets, gas masks, gumboots, pads for steel helmets, commando and paratroop equipment; (for the Navy) insulated cable and hose pipes, range-finder fittings, eyepieces for gun sights; (For the merchant fleets) de-gaussing equipment (to protect them from magnetic mines).
