Description

A reporter walks alongside ACT MP David Garrett in a parliamentary corridor and asks him 'Is it true you are using a false identity and masquerading as a person who is"transparent and accountable"?' Rodney Hide, ACT leader and Local Government Minister says that CCOs (Council Controlled Organisations ) will strongly support local government transparency and accountability in Auckland - although this statement referred particularly to CCOs, it might be expected that he would apply it to his own party as well. David Garrett has been expelled from the ACT Party for past misdemeanours which include his stealing a dead baby's birth certificate to get a false passport as a kind of joke. Finlay Macdonald wrote the following in March 2010 - 'Accountability is something we hear about a great deal, but observe in action very little. It's one of those verbal tics politicians default to, along with "transparency" and "productivity", which sound good but bear almost no scrutiny. As a rule of thumb, the more such terms are uttered the more confident we can be that something close to the opposite is actually occurring.'
