Shows Maori with pigs in the foreground and a carved canoe prow, dwellings and other buildings of the pa, the palisade, the harbour and ships in the background
Attributed to Gilfillan by the Library in 1974; however the initials, lower right, do not read J A G, nor do they match Gilfillan's monogram. Edmund Norman is another possibility. The initials appear to read E. N. and are in the style of Norman's monogram.
Inscriptions: Recto - bottom right - Signature has been written over to read E N Fecit, (or E. H.?) although the F also looks rather like a G
