Account of his journey, as guide for John Henry Whitcombe, from the headwaters of the Rakaia River across the Southern Alps to the mouth of the Taramakau River, near Kumara. Whitcombe was working on contract for the Canterbury Provincial Government and drown during the expedition.
Also, holograph notes by William Young of Lauper's and Whitcombe's exploration. A typescript copy is at qMS-2304
