Description

Steam powered earth moving machine operating during railway construction at Ohakune. Photograph taken by Samuel Heath Head between 1890-1930.

Two of these machines were made for the New Zealand Railways in 1905 by Whitaker Brothers Ltd, Horsforth, Leeds. Only one survives today and is at the Silver Stream Railway museum in Upper Hutt, Wellington.
