Sir Thomas Hunter watching excavation work at Victoria University College, circa 18 November 1948. Classrooms for the University and the Teachers' College were planned for this site. Photographer unidentified.
Evening Post caption attached to back of photograph reads: "[unreadable] a Hill. The Principal of Victoria University College (Sir Thomas Hunter) watches excavations which have been proceeding for the last fortnight on a site above the present college buildings where a block of four new temporary classrooms is to be erected. These classrooms, which are expected to be completed about the middle of next year, will be shared by the Training College and Victoria College. The excavation work is considerable, involving the removal of all one slope of a hill. About 22,000 cubic yards of soil will have to be excavated."
