Experimental psychologist, university professor at Victoria University College, and administrator. Brother Irwin Hunter was seven years older than Thomas Hunter. In 1905 at Dunedin Thomas Hunter married Zella Pope (Isabel Zella Pope, who died in 1950). Their home in Wellington was at 10 Clermont Terrace. They had one son, also called Irwin (who was a businessman in Melbourne at the time of his father's death in 1953). Knighted in 1939. Did some exploring and climbing in the Southern Alps and Fiordland. Became the first working vice chancellor of the University of New Zealand, holding the position from 1929-1947.
