Shows Prime Minister John Key making a speech about plans to merge government departments. When a member of the audience asks about job losses as a result he says that they'll merge with the dole queue...' Refers to government proposals to reduce expenditure by merging departments or reducing the proliferation of similar roles in different departments. Grant Robertson, Labour Associate Arts, Culture and Heritage spokesperson says that plans to merge Archives New Zealand and the National Library into the Department of Internal Affairs is a backward step putting at risk vital elements of our historical and democratic infrastructure. Radio New Zealand understands the proposals are to merge the National Library and National Archives into the Department of Internal Affairs; and combine the Foundation for Research, Science & Technology and the Ministry of Research, Science & Technology. A third merger would move the Food Safety Authority into the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry.
