Description

Robbie describes his training in New Zealand, voyage to Egypt, and military life in Egypt and France (1916-1917). Also detailed accounts of leave and training in England, and trench warfare in France, Jun 1917.

Diary begins 9 July 1915. Describes going to training camp at Trentham from Patea, travelling down to Wellington and Christchurch for farewells, before departing from Lyttelton on the Tofua on 14 November 1915. He then details the ocean voyage to Suez, Egypt. The remainder of the diary discusses military life and life in the trenches on the Western Front. The final entry is on 30 June 1917. Robbie was killed in action near Ypres on 22 July 1917.

George Alexander Robbie was a Second Lieutenant with the Wellington Infantry Regiment. Embarked for Suez, Egypt 13 Nov 1915 on the Tofua. Killed in action at Ypres, 22 July 1917. Service number: 24/1306.
