Shows Mikheil Saakashvili, President of Georgia standing against a background of the Georgian flag and crest. He is making a speech. At the beginning of August, 2008 Saakashvili attacked South Ossetia, a part of Georgia with a strong Russian loyalty. Russia responded and soundly defeated the Georgian forces in five days. There is now an uneasy peace.
