Photographs taken during the time of the Taranaki, Waikato, and Auckland campaigns of the New Zealand wars, chiefly circa 1861, compiled by Lieutenant C J Urquhart, of the 65th Regiment. Includes photographs of military camps and road construction in the Waikato. Many of the photographs have no identified photographer. Some were taken by Dr William Temple, John Nicol Crombie, and John Kinder.

Description: Coastline, New Plymouth, circa 1861. Looks along a beach, towards the distant Sugar Loaf Islands. Richmond Cottage, is just visible, left of centre. Photographer unidentified. Richmond Cottage was constructed from stone in 1854 and located at St Aubyn Street, New Plymouth, for Christopher William and Emily Elizabeth Atkinson. Occupied by the Richmond family for many years. Became an accommodation place in the 1880s. Moved in the early 1960s to Pukeariki Landing, Ariki Street. Administered by Puke Ariki/ New Plymouth Museum.
