Comprises typescript copy of Brown's diary (1835-1846); and microfilm printout (1847-1850). A journal kept while Brown was a missionary for the Church Missionary Society at Matamata, Tauranga and the Bay of Islands. He describes conversion and education of Maori, inter-tribal war while at Matamata and his journey on HMS `Rattlesnake' with James Busby and Samuel Marsden from the Bay of Islands to Queen Charlotte Sound (1837).
