Drafts or copies of quarterly dispatches sent by the Governor, Lord Ranfurly, to the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
In these reports the Governor gives often frank comments on a wide range of topics including opinions on local politics and politicians, on the response to the impending South African War, his official functions and activities, and national rivalry with Australia.
Included with one of the reports is a British National Antarctic Expedition card signed by Ernest Shackleton.
