Shows the New Zealand banded rail standing on a rock above water.
Derived from an engraving in Latham, John. A general synopsis of birds (1781). Latham's engravings are from bird skins taken back to England by Captain Cook.
The copperplate engraving may also have been published separately in 1787, as inscribed.
