View probably from the Belmont Hills looking across a field towards the house and gardens of Thomas Mason, with the bush-clad Eastern Hutt hills (Wingate) rising beyond. Mature trees surround the house, beyond a post and rail fence.
Thomas Mason, a Quaker, established his large gardens within a ring of native trees at Taita in the 1840s
