- Description
A single-storied bungalow with a verandah, L-shaped, behind a hedge with garden gate
The house, later burnt down, was the home of the Wylie family. Adelaide Wylie married Elsdon Best. The house was moved to the site shown in this view in 1889 by Joseph Wylie (uncle of Adelaide), the 4th schoolteacher at Fort Galatea (1887-1903). There were two matching buildings, shown here on the left, pulled to this site from the 1875 redoubt. The right hand addition was put on by Joseph Wylie. The small lean-tos on the far left were added by the Turnbull family, connected to the Wylie family by marriage and living at Galatea, 1909-1953.
Mrs Waters informed the Library on acquisition that the house was burnt down on the eve of the Galatea centennial.
