The scene is a wharf where two rusty and dilapidated fishing boats are anchored nearby. An official holding a writ asks a man on the wharf who owns the boats but he denies all knowledge. The man is crouched down dancing a cossack dance and there is a bottle of vodka lying beside him. Some other fishermen are looking on.
