"We" steam locomotive 198, originally built as "B" class 198, converted to We class 4-6-4T type in 1902, and renumbered "We" 376 in 1942. Probably photographed by Stanley Arthur Rockliff, negative copied by Albert Percy Godber, probably circa 1902.
An original print is in Godber Album Vol 108, p 59 (PA1-q-101)

"We" 198 was originally built as "B" 198 (4-8-0 type) by Sharp Stewart (maker's no 4509/99), and went into service in December 1899. Altered to "We" class (4-6-4T type) in 1902 and renumbered "We" 376 in 1942. See "Register of New Zealand Railways steam locomotives, 1863-1971" by W G Lloyd (p 53, 84). Noted in Godber's album Vol 108, p 59 (PA1-q-101) as being renumbered "We" 375 in 1944.
