Description

Rodney Hide, leader of ACT, swings at the baseball but misses and since this is the third strike he is out. The ball which represents 'murder statistics' is lodged in his mouth. Text at the top of the cartoon states that not one life sentence prisoner would have been stopped by the 3 strikes law. The 3 strikes law allows for the handing down of a mandatory and extended period of incarceration to persons who have been convicted of a serious criminal offense on three or more separate occasions. The name comes from baseball, where a batter is permitted two strikes before striking out on the third.
