On 27 November 2009, low-paid state sector workers held protests across New Zealand against the National Party-led government's decision not to fund wage increases for the next three to five years. Rallies organised by the Council of Trade Unions (CTU), the Service and Food Workers Union (SFWU), the Public Service Association (PSA) and the New Zealand Educational Institute (NZEI).
