Images of the construction of a coal mining railroad and its early use including the hydraulic brake for the no. 1 incline, the 17-span viaduct, the changing flat where tubs are transferred to the no.2 incline, tunnel mouths etc. Two of the photographers are identified as James Ring (1/4-015594) and Henry Thomas Lock (1/4-015598).
Identified by a researcher as Paparoa Coal Company mine at Roa, above Blackball.
