Description

The cartoon shows the cover of a magazine named 'BRAD' with a grinning freckled schoolboy wearing a soldier's beret who has ear buds in his ears; one bud leads to a computer and the other to a microphone being held by Lady Gaga. Text across the bottom reads 'Top War Diaries Magazine 40c'. Refers to the leaking of a great deal of documentation about the Afghan War by a 22 year old Army Intelligence Analyst named Bradley Manning to Julian Assange's Wikileaks website. The magazine cover is a take-off of the cover of MAD magazine - there being a wordplay on 'Mad' and the alleged leaker's name, 'Brad'. The grinning schoolboy looks very much like Bradley Manning. Manning said that he "would come in with music on a CD-RW labeled with something like 'Lady Gaga,' erase the music then write a compressed split file," he wrote. "No one suspected a thing and, odds are, they never will."He 'listened and lip-synced to Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' while exfiltrating possibly the largest data spillage in American history," he added later. "Weak servers, weak logging, weak physical security, weak counter-intellgence, inattentive signal analysis a perfect storm." (www.wired.com/threatlevel/)
