Description

A night scene with the two ships heeled over beyond the reef in the background, and men on low rocky reefs in the middle ground hauling objects from the ships. There are futher men in a lifeboat rowing towards the reef in the foreground

Jorgensen is assumed to be the artist and Hooker the dedicatee. This is supported by the fact that Jorgensen was confined aboard the hulk Bahama at Chatham in 1909, and while there provided illustrations for a biographical manuscript that Hooker was preparingl. In addition, the handwriting below the image matches that below an image by Jorgensen reproduced to illustrate the article about him in Joan Kerr's 'Dictionary of Australian artists ... to 1870 (Melbourne, 1992, p. 415)
