- Description
Album of photographs covering the period 1922 to 1961 in the history of the Girl Guide movement in New Zealand, with links to the movement in other countries. Views include the visits of Lord and Lady Baden-Powell, Queen Elizabeth, and Queen Elizabeth II with Prince Philip; various ceremonial occasions with New Zealand dignitaries presiding; many views of Girl Guide camps in different parts of the country, including at Otimai, Omatua and Arahina (all properties run for the Girl Guides Association).
Several images show a ceremonial tour of a scroll commemorating the visit to New Zealand of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, and a jigsaw puzzle to be presented by Girl Guides for the royal children. These toured throughout New Zealand.
Photographs of delegates to overseas conferences and rallies are included in the album, including a group at Cooperstown, USA, in 1948, and the Oxford World Conference in 1950.
A Pan Pacific Ranger Gathering was held at Arahina in Marton in 1953, and Girl Guides from a number of pacific countries attended.
