"It is with a heavy heart that my govt sends the SAS back to Afghanistan, but we have an exit plan that we know our great grand children will implement to the letter." 12 August 2009

- Description
Prime Minister, John Key, makes a speech as SAS troops prepare to leave for Afghanistan saying that he has an exit plan that he knows our great grandchildren will implement to the letter. The sending of troops to fight rather than reconstruct is a controversial one and the reference to great grandchildren suggests that New Zealand will find it hard to withdraw troops once committed. Prime Minister, John Key has said that he wants an exit strategy before sending the country's elite Special Air Service combat troops back to Afghanistan as the U.S. has requested.
