Description

Defence Minister, Wayne Mapp, walks beside a member of the New Zealand SAS forces in Afghanistan and is confused when the officer talks of a tricky transition with suspicion, security issues, infighting and so on, about whether he is talking about Afghanistan or the ACT Party. Refers to the news that a contingent of Kiwi troops is likely to stay in Afghanistan till 2013 to ensure a smooth transition after the provincial reconstruction team working in Bamiyan province officially withdraws in September 2011. But refers also to the strife in the ACT Party recently when Rodney Hide replaced Heather Roy as his deputy with John Boscawen. A very public spat ensued because notes written by Heather Roy in which she described Rodney Hide as a 'bully' were leaked. She was 'sent' home on stress leave but popped up again in Wellington five days later, determined to leave the past behind her.
