Description

The first self propelled steam fire engine, photographed outside the Central Fire Station in Wanganui, between 1919 and 1921, by Samuel Heath Head. The plaque on the left of the engine reads "Merryweather London first grand prize patent steam fire engine".

Source of descriptive information - Date of photograph from Library client.

Possibly the first self propelled fire engine imported into Australasia. Sold to Ohakune Volunteer Fire Brigade in 1921.
