Description: Wanganui Fire Brigade's Merryweather fire engine on blocks, probably in Chavannes Garage, taken in, or around 1921, by Frank J Denton. Information from a library client states: Chavannes Garage was the business that imported and supplied the vehicle to the brigade in December 1910. When new, the vehicle had a very large hose reel attached to the rear, which was later removed and the rear lockers replaced it. A report in January 1926 stated that the machine was useless and unreliable. It was sold a short time later for £60. Source of descriptive information - Information in 'Historical notes', also information about about Chavannes Garage, and the approximate date of the image, all from Library client.
