The ship Chatham "Chatham, ship off New Plymouth" is a barque, not the Chatham in which Vancouver circumnavigated the world in the late eighteenth century.

This sketchbook contains many of the preliminary sketches for the more finished studio drawings in the Library's two large albums, E-452-f & E-453-f

Provenance: Purchased by Alexander Turnbull in May 1913 from Sydney dealers Angus & Robertson, who had purchased this diary and sketchbook from the artist in London, along with the sketches now located at E-452-f and E-453-f.

Transfers: From Manuscripts & Archives - Formerly MS Strutt / 1855-56 / P. Transferred to DPP, Sept, 1989.
