Description

Album of photographs probably taken by George W Barltrop (who was at one time president of the Nelson Camera Club), between 1899 and 1902.

Scenes include group portraits of Labour Day celebrations by the Missions to Seamen in 1900 and 1901; Prince of Wales birthday celebrations in 1901; members of a camera club (possibly in the Hutt Valley, associated with a Mr Stevens); and views of Island Bay and French Pass, with close-up views of the anchor and a sailor standing at the steering wheel on a fishing boat.

In the South Island there are views of the Blenheim Road, Havelock Road, Wakapuaka Road, Cable Bay, and Bishops Peninsula (?).

Two images show Indian troops who came to New Zealand as part of the tour by the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York in 1901.

A close-up view of the altar rail in Rangiatia Church in Otaki, shows maori carving in detail.
