Contents of first issue include contributions from: Jacob Newton, Mary Ponsonby, Thomas Carlyle (communicated by A.S.M.), Robert Parnell, Alfred Devonport, H. J. Blyth, and an article about the first landing of the Maoris in New Zealand in AD 1314.
The journal was printed in Auckland. The first issue came out on 20 March 1886.
