Two young women, one of them pushing her baby in a buggy, stop at a newspaper stand to read an article headed 'More and more violence in girls these days'. The woman with the baby is astonished and says 'Violence? Sweet little girls?? I don't believe that - do you?' Her baby smiles sweetly and waves a rattle which she has just used as a weapon, hitting another baby on the head as a second buggy passes by. Context - Principals say violence carried out by girls - physical and emotional - has increased far more than that of boys in recent years. Girls' violence is rising in schools as the effects of cyber-bullying and reality television turn them into "Barbie Bitches", experts say. (Stuff - 24 May 2008)
