Description

Logging gang standing on logs being transported on Stuart and Chapman's bush tramway at the back of Seddon's Terrace, Rimu, south east of Hokitika. A Davison locomotive and Davison winch is visible in the background. Young man standing closest to the locomotive is James (Boxer) Henderson. Photographer unidentified.

David Patrick Stuart and John Chapman were proprietors of Seddon's Terrace Sawmill at Rimu established in 1899 and the Waitaha Bluff sawmill at Ross, established in 1903. They owned a bush tramway which ran south of Ross for 20 kilometres to Lake Ianthe area. The Davidson locomotive was built by G & D Davidson & Co, Hokitika.
