Letter and contemporary translation informing McLean of his desire to remain at Tuparoa and protect Ngati Porou people and not to impeed relationships with neighbouring anti-Crown tribes lest they support Te Kooti coming up from the south or Waikato and Ngati Maru coming down from the north
