A circus herald advertising the Fitzgerald Brothers' Circus.
Recto shows portrait illustrations of the two Fitzgerald Brothers at the top corners, and below is a large scene showing many acts going on in the Big Top. Performers included: The Zenobia Brothers (globe on a tightrope), Gilleno (musical clown), dog show introduced by Manzoni (from the Folies Bergeres), Mdemoiselle Onra (tightrope), Miss Beryl Loraine (contortionist and dancer), Eric and Reano (aerial trapeze comedians), The Flying Meteors, Benato the Clown, The Marottos (horizontal bar)
Contains a warning that any swindlers, gamblers, fakirs making false claims and undermining the circus affidavits, will be arrested if found on the grounds.
The verso advertises an orangutan on display.
Lower side of verso is overstamped with Palmerston North dates and venue.

Description: Half of one side of a circus herald. This part shows two panels advertising Fitzgerald Bros circus, which is declared to be "high-class and strictly moral". Shows are performed in water-proof tents, and feature the finest bred horses. The public is urged "Do not fail to see the nearest approach to man in the animal world, an Orang-Outang, from the wilds of Africa, always interesting and amusing". The text is interspersed with illustrations of dogs leaping through a hoop, a ballerina on horseback, a tiger, a horse and a ringmaster, tumbling acrobats on parallel bars, and performing horses.
