Shows a head and shoulders portrait of an elderly woman, Mrs Mary Stone, the great-great-grandmother of Katherine Mansfield. It is thought to have been drawn by her son-in-law, the English artist C R Leslie.
The sitter wears a large bonnet with a bow on it, and a bow tied under the chin.

The artist Charles Robert Leslie married Harriet Honour Stone, the daughter of Samuel Stone and Mary Sneyd. Another daughter Anne Stone married John Beauchamp, and was the grandmother of Harold Beauchamp, KM's father. (See family tree at AT 10/14, 9 October 2003)
