Description

The cartoon shows a 'sluggish and anaemic' woman, who represents the economy, lying in a hospital bed. Prime Minister John Key has arrived at her bedside with a large syringe labelled 'GST rise'; he grins broadly and comments that this should stimulate her. Refers to the proposed rise in GST from 12.5 to 15% which is likely to be announced in the May budget. Critics consider that a rise in GST will hit those on low budgets hardest. Cynics say that the rise in GST is to pay for tax cuts also promised in the May budget.
