- Description
The cartoon shows two men whose yacht has capsized far from land but close to an island. As they float in the ocean one of them says that they can swim for the island and the first to reach it can claim indigenous rights and then keep going on about it. Refers to continuing debate about indigenous rights and Maori land claims. Maori Party Co-leader Pita Sharples has recently signed the United Nations Declaration of Indigenous Rights on behalf of the government.
