- Description
In the first of two panels Pita Sharples, co-leader of the Maori Party, greets Finance Minister, Michael Cullen, in fulsome tones as the 'intellectual grunt in Cabinet' and as the 'Master of Treaty Settlements'. Michael Cullen is touched and somewhat taken aback. He wonders how the rest of the electorate view him and Pita Sharples tells him that he is seen as 'dog tucker'. Refers to the The New Zealand government set a historic milestone by transferring ownership of 435,000 acres of plantation forests and forest rents to seven Maori tribes. The $319 billion Treelords agreement was the result of grievances that arose from loss of lands, forests and fisheries during the 19th century European settlement of the country. The 'dog tucker' comment relates to Labour's poor polling in the run up to the elections.
