A sketch showing a view of Sydney Bay, Norfolk Island, with a group of houses on the show, and a tall flagpole. A rowboat rides the swell near the flagpole. There is a windmill on a point of land at the far right, and a hill slope behind the settlement at the left. Two Norfolk pines stand at the far left.
The location is identified as Sydney Bay in a virtually identical picture reproduced in Theodore Morton Jones' diary (Manuscripts qMS-1075), page 212a. The title beneath that version says that it is from a sketch by Lieut Gaynor, 99th Regiment.
