- Description
The cartoon shows a madman who represents the 'World's lust for oil' desperately demanding a 'fix'. Above him hangs a huge seal that someone offscreen yells to have lowered as they have 'located the source'. Empty oil barrels lie around. Text at the top of the cartoon reads 'The answer to the world's oil problems?' Refers to the efforts to bung the well that is spewing oil Into the Gulf of Mexico after a disastrous oil spill that began 20th May 2010. BP is considered responsible but Houston-based Halliburton Co., the giant energy services company, was responsible for cementing the drill into place below the water and cementing was the single most important factor in 18 of 39 well blowouts in the Gulf of Mexico over a 14-year period. The cartoon suggests that killing off the world's lust for oil might be the answer to the world's oil problems.
