Looking across wide plain with meandering river; group of buildings in left foreground by a stream are the Helensville church and the Helensville Sawmill, the large building with a chimney. The brown piles near the sawmill building are likely to be piles of wood. The Kaipara River and Harbour are in the background.
Watercolour dated from the fact that Fox paid an official visit to Kaipara in 1864. Buildings identified from a related photo of Helensville by Daniel Beere in the Photographic Archive.
