Description

A small boy, representing Auckland city, is towing a toy train and finding his way to Wellington blocked by Premier Richard Seddon as a mountain wearing 'Hutt railway favours', 'Southland railway favours', midland railway favours', 'Westland railway favours' and 'Marlborough railway favours' on his 'sleeves'. The cartoonist implies that the building of railways was subject to patronage.

The date 1909 appears as an eruption from Seddon's head.

Extended Title - Auckland -"Well, they seem to have eruptions over Vesuvius way. I wonder if anything will ever hurry up this old mountain."
