Collection relating to (Frederick) Stuart Varnham's service in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (NZEF).
Includes diaries kept by Varnham while on active service during World War One dated 1915-1919, and World War Two, dated 1940-1944. Also includes typed transcripts of diaries transcribed by Varnham's daughter, Nancy Croad.
Also includes `Notes for travellers... in Palestine and Syria', 1933 (annotated); two silk maps of Italy and Cyraenaia; letter and postcard from George Bernard Knight (1916); and Active Service New Testament (1916).
Also includes correspondence from Varnham to a family friend, written during World War Two; a programme for the National Peace Celebrations in London; and a 1936 volume of the 'Journal of the Taranaki Regiment'.
