A high bank in the foreground, with cabbage trees, and the burned trunks of other trees. Three soldiers are below one tree in the right foreground, with a fourth standing alone, further to the left. The Patea River is below, with high banks to the left. Mount Taranaki is in the background. In the right background on a hilltop is the palisade of a pa, probably Kakaramea Pa
Mounted with A-236-017 and A-236-019. The titles for the three works, in the hand of E. A. Williams, and originally attached to the back of the mount, are in a separate folder alongside the three works
