The cartoon shows a ragged PM John Key and Finance Minister Bill English afloat in a battered small sailing boat named 'NZ' in a 'Sea of Debt'. Bill English says 'Well - we've survived the big recession storm' and John Key reckons that it's 'plain sailing from now on.' Refers to the news that New Zealand's five major banks (Westpac, ASB, ANZ National, BNZ and Kiwibank) are emerging from the gloom of the recession, maintaining core earnings and showing measured balance sheet growth despite a trebling in bad debt expenses and the accruing for costs associated with the conduit tax disputes with the Inland Revenue. - (PriceWaterhouseCoopers)
