- Description
The scene shows a flock of sheep at an airport. They are wearing the kind of black caps worn by the Black Caps New Zealand Cricket team and are being mustered by a shepherd with 'ICC' on his overalls past a large sign saying 'Zimbabwe'. The cartoon refers to the New zealand Cricket team having left for Zimbabwe in spite of major public pressure not to go because of the increasingly bad human rights record of President Robert Mugabe. The ICC is the International Cricket Council which refused to take a moral stand over the situation and insisted that the team go or else face a large financial penalty. The team is shown as sheeplike as they chose not to take a moral stand either. Although a parliamentary vote decided 110 against 10 that the team should not go parliament refused to accept a bill from the New Zealand Green Party that sought to outlaw sporting contact with Zimbabwe.
